Today, we had a summer shower. That never happens here. Usually, if it rains, it’s cold and miserable and pouring and the only thing more miserable than running in that rain is biking in it.
But, today, when it sprinkled while I was on my run, it was just fun.
I haven’t run at the lakes in 3 or 4 months and I forgot how nice it is. The trail weaves around the lake, under the pine trees, and the sun comes down through the leaves. It’s surrounded by green hills and Mt. Tam. And, today, you could hear the rain hitting the leaves, but it only sprinkled on me. And, because it’s a reservoir and not a fishing-boating-swimming lake, it’s so quiet you can hear the birds and the rustling in the bushes that you probably don’t want to think too hard about. I tried to take a picture with my cell phone, but it didn’t turn out well.
This probably has something to do with why when I ran the local 10K last year my 40:25 only got me 35th place. When you have lots of amazing trails, you get really fast runners.
I’m running that 10K at the end of the month. When I decided to do it a few weeks ago I thought 4 weeks after Alcatraz, that’s plenty of time to get my running up to speed. Now, it’s three weeks away and the five day break I took is starting to seem like it was a bad idea.
